How To Clean Roller On Brother Printer
If the paper feed rollers are stained with ink or have a buildup of paper dust, it may cause paper feed problems. P eriodically, c leaning both the paper feed & paper pick-up rollers may prevent paper jams by ensuring that paper feeds properly.
Before proceeding gathering the following supplies:
- A lint-free cloth lightly moistened with one of the following:
- A non-flammable glass cleaner.
- Rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol.
- Water.
- If you don't have a lint-free cloth, use an alcohol prep pad (such as the kind that can be found in a first aid kit or medicine cabinet).
Don't use any rough or abrasive type cloth (like a napkin or tissue) as the fibers can coat the rollers and cause them not to grip the paper resulting in paper feeding issues.
1. Unplug the machine from the power outlet.
2. If the paper support flap is open(1), close it, then close the paper support(2).
3. Remove the paper tray (1) completely out of the machine. Set it aside.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
a. Firmly grasp the machine by placing your left thumb under the front of the machine and your fingers on the top cover. b. Lift the front of the machine 6-to-8 inches off the surface. Don't attempt to lift the machine from the control panel area, as the control panel will tilt when lifted, and this could cause you to drop the machine . c. Clean the front side of the Paper Feed Rollers (1) using your lightly moistened soft lint-free cloth or alcohol prep pad. d. L ift the Jam Clear Flap (2), and then clean the back side of the Paper Feed Rollers (1) using your lightly moistened soft lint-free cloth or alcohol prep pad. e. Gently lower the machine back down on the flat surface.
Clean the Paper Pick-up Rollers:
a. Firmly grasp the machine by placing your left thumb under the front of the machine and your fingers on the top cover. b. Lift the front of the machine 6-to-8 inches off the surface. Don't attempt to lift the machine from the control panel area, as the control panel will tilt when lifted, and this could cause you to drop the machine . c. L d. Clean both pick-up rollers with the same lightly moistened cloth or alcohol prep pad. Slowly turn the follers so that the whole surface is cleaned. e. Gently lower the machine back down on the flat surface.
4. Retrieve the paper tray. Remove any paper loaded in the tray.
5. Using the same lightly moistened cloth or alcohol prep pad, clean the Base Pad on the paper tray.
Make sure the base pad on the paper tray is dry before moving to the next step.
6. Reload the paper into the paper tray.
7. Reinstall the paper tray back into the machine.
8. Plug the machine back in and power it back on.
